01 — What you may be feeling

What is your arm or elbow making harder?

Choose the concern that sounds most like yours, or contact us if you are unsure where to start. Arm discomfort can sometimes come from the neck or shoulder, even when that area does not hurt. Your therapist considers how these areas work together. You do not need to know the cause before requesting an evaluation.

How we can help

Explore arm and elbow care at FYZICAL Woburn

Explore some of the concerns we assess and how care can be tailored to your activities and goals.

Tennis elbow

Pain near the outside of the elbow can involve the tendons used when lifting and gripping—you do not have to play tennis. Care may include adjusting aggravating tasks and gradually building strength.

Request an appointment

Golfer’s elbow

Pain near the inside of the elbow can involve tendons used for gripping and wrist movement. Your therapist assesses which tasks bother you and discusses a manageable progression of activity and exercise.

Request an appointment

Biceps or triceps tendon discomfort near the elbow

Tendons help connect these arm muscles to bone. When appropriate after assessment, rehabilitation may include adjusting loads and gradually rebuilding strength. A sudden pop, bruising or marked weakness needs medical evaluation first.

Request an appointment

Elbow stiffness after injury or surgery

Difficulty bending or straightening your elbow can affect eating, dressing and reaching. Rehabilitation follows healing precautions and any instructions from your medical or surgical team.

Your assessment guides an individualized plan. Your therapist discusses how physical therapy and any care from your other healthcare professionals fit together.

Our approach to care

Arm and elbow treatment, paced to you

Elbow and upper-arm discomfort can affect how you lift, grip, carry and work. Based on your assessment, your program may combine tailored exercise, task adjustments and practical guidance. Treatment is adjusted to your assessment, response and goals.

Elbow mobility

Your therapist helps you work on bending and straightening your elbow at a level you can tolerate, within any healing precautions.

Progressive arm strength

Strength work is set at a tolerable level and built up gradually as your arm responds, rather than pushing through worsening pain.

Lifting and gripping technique

You can explore ways to lift, carry and grip that place less demand on irritated tissues while you rebuild strength.

Workload and graded return

Together you plan workload and rest adjustments and a graded return to work, household and leisure tasks, with a home program reviewed along the way.

We review changes in your symptoms and everyday function, not just a pain score, and adjust your program as needed. Tell your therapist about new or worsening symptoms; some changes need medical review rather than an exercise adjustment.

05 — Questions

A few answers before you get started

How quickly can I get an appointment?

New-patient evaluations are often available within two business days. Call or submit a request to check current availability.

Do I need a referral?

You can contact us without one. We will help check what is needed for your visit and your insurance plan.

Do I need a diagnosis first?

No. Tell us what you are experiencing. Your physical therapist will assess your concerns and discuss appropriate next steps.

Will my insurance cover my visits?

We are in-network with Medicare, Medicare Railroad, Mass General Brigham, UnitedHealthcare, Humana, Aetna, TRICARE, BCBS and Harvard Pilgrim. Services for other plans, excluding Medicaid, are out-of-network and subject to clinic benefit verification. We are not a Medicaid provider. Coverage depends on your specific plan. We can help check your benefits and explain estimated costs before your visit. Benefit verification does not guarantee payment.

How many visits will I need?

That depends on your assessment, goals and progress. Your therapist will discuss a recommended plan and review it as treatment progresses.

Is physical therapy right for my arm or elbow?

Your therapist assesses your concerns, explains how physical therapy may help and discusses any medical input needed before or alongside care.

What if an exercise is painful?

Some discomfort can be expected, but do not push through pain that is getting worse. Stop and tell your therapist so the exercise can be adjusted or your symptoms reviewed.

How long does arm or elbow recovery take?

Your recovery plan reflects your condition, activities and goals. Your therapist reviews your progress and discusses what to expect; recovery times vary.

Can I have tennis elbow without playing tennis?

Yes. Similar elbow symptoms can occur with work, household tasks and other activities. An assessment is important because elbow pain can have several causes.

Can I contact you for a family member?

Yes. Enter your own contact information and let us know you are contacting us for someone else.
